Special Subject of Qinghai Province

Brief Introduction: Qinghai Province is located in the northeast of the Tibet Plateau. More than four fifths of the area is plateau, with an average altitude of more than 3000 meters. It is a typical plateau continental climate. It has the following basic characteristics: first, it has the vast territory and sparse population. Qinghai Province is about 1200 km long from east to west and 800 km wide from north to south, covering an area of 722300 km, accounting for 7.51% of the total area of the country. Second, it has multi-ethnic settlement. There are 53 ethnic minorities, 6 ethnic autonomous prefectures and 7 ethnic autonomous counties, Ethnic autonomous areas account for 98% of the total area. Third, it has abundant resources. A total of 127 kinds of mineral resources have been found of which 54 kinds are in the top 10 in China. In particular, hydropower resources, salt lake resources, oil and gas resources, limited metal resources and non-metallic mineral resources are very rich, and the development prospect is broad. In addition, it is rich in characteristic agriculture and animal husbandry, wildlife and tourism resources too. Fourth,  its ecological status is very important. Qinghai is the birthplace of the Yangtze River which has been known as the water tower of China. It is an important ecological function area in China and an important base for plateau scientific research. In order to serve the scientific research of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and the high-quality development of Qinghai's economy and society, the Qinghai Branch of the National Tibet Plateau Data Center was establishied by the Institute of Tibet Plateau Research Chinese Academy of Sciences, Science and Technology Department of Qinghai Province and Qinghai Normal University on November 24, 2020. Qinghai Branch of the National Tibet Plateau Data Center will carry out cooperation in the fields of scientific data collection and sharing, data utilization and development, ecological assessment.
